Itinerary for the Heroic Journey
How the Heroic Journey Shows Up

“The labyrinth is thoroughly known; we have only to follow the thread of the hero-path.”Joseph Campbell

We are excited to reveal that the Inner Journey Project has received a Call to Adventure. This means that we are going to travel through the stages of the Heroic Journey in the New Year. And you are invited to join us.

In 1949 Joseph Campbell popularised the ‘Hero’s Journey’ through his book The Hero with a Thousand Faces. In 1990 this was followed by Maureen Murdock’s book The Heroine’s Journey.

Both are seminal books describing the human journey through life, our struggle for identity, the challenges we have to face, and the gifts we have the right to claim. Campbell wrote from the masculine perspective, Murdock responded by presenting the feminine view. Maureen Murdock was a student of Campbell’s work, and she strongly disagreed with his view that ‘women don’t need to make the journey’.

On our Heroic Journey we will navigate the feminine and masculine approaches in a balanced manner. Our mission is to integrate both the Heroine and the Hero within. No matter whether you are male or female, all humans are called to make this journey in some way.

On this Heroic Journey we’ll move towards uniting the feminine and the masculine, the two complementary forces that live inside each of us. Here we are not so much interested in the big themes such as finding our identity, which are eloquently dealt with by many other authors. We are curious to find out how the principles of the heroic quest can be applied in everyday life.

Join us to find out more about how the Heroic Journey can show up in everyday life.

You may awaken some dormant potential along the way. You may become more confident about tackling inner monsters and learn how to discover inner treasures.

Most importantly, however, you will gain some practical knowledge of how to recognise the natural pattern of the ancient human quest within your present world.

This journey is not just about achieving the big destinations in life such as finding your true purpose, meeting your perfect partner, discovering the true meaning of life etc. It can be applied to any humble goal. In fact, it makes a lot of sense to practice with a smaller goal first before you attempt to tackle the big ones.

And if you are already on your way towards achieving your life’s mission, there will be hundreds of opportunities to apply these fundamental principles again and again. The more familiar you become with the sequence outlined above, the easier it will be to navigate your life’s path.

We’d love to welcome you on the Heroic Journey. Spaces are not limited. This is a unique opportunity to explore the classic human quest with expert guidance, completely free of charge.

We’ll be travelling along this path together. We’ll discover how Ariadne’s thread can help us find our way into the labyrinth of our own lives, and out again, having faced a personal challenge and acquired a unique gift.

Each week we will offer one article and one newsletter dedicated to one step of the Heroic Journey. The articles and letters represent the masculine and feminine aspects of the journey. The articles are public, the letters are private. The articles are more theoretical, the letters are more practical.

Letters are available to subscribers to our mailing list. If you would like to receive the practical part of this Heroic Journey, please enter your name and email in the fields below, hit the SIGN UP! button and follow instructions.

The Heroic Journey will officially start with an introductory article and newsletter on January 9th 2015.
